SCIde Projects from Horning's Hideout
After a two year hiatus, the String Cheese Incident got back together for a run of 8 shows in 2010. They made stops at the amazing Red Rocks Amphitheater in their home state Colorado, a four night festival run at their old stomping grounds Hornings Hideout in Portland, OR, and closed out the year with a 2 night Halloween run at the famed Hampton Coliseum in Hampton, VA. While on this hiatus all of the members of SCI stayed busy with various different side projects. Drummers Michael Travis and Jason Hann formed the relentless touring beast that is EOTO, who's forte is all improvised electronic music. Octave mandolin and fiddle extraordinaire Michael Kang joined forces with Chris Berry and formed Panjea as well as CB-3 specializing in world beat music which features Chris Berry on the mbira, an African thumb piano, as well as other African-native musicians. Pianist Kyle Hollingsworth called upon his friends Dave Watts and Garrett Sayers from the Colorado based band The Motet, to form the Kyle Hollingsworth Band which focuses mostly on funk, soul and some great covers. Lastly, guitarist Bill Nershi joined up with great friend and expert mandolin player Drew Emmitt from Leftover Salmon and the Drew Emmitt Band to form the Emmitt-Nershi Band, which features local Colorado musicians. The Emmitt-Nershi Band explores traditional bluegrass, as well as folk and new grass tunes. It is clear that the members from the String Cheese Incident have had a blast with their side projects and have brought some of that back to SCI with them.
